What This Site Holds About You

This page is written the way an entry in the catalogue is written: what the thing is made of, where it sits, and how it got there. There is very little of it, which is a design decision rather than a boast.

The whole of it

What Where it sits How long Who else can see it
The four fields of a letter: a name, a reply address, a subject chosen from four, and the letter itselfThe mailbox this house readsWhile the matter is open, and a short while after, because the commonest second letter is a question about a firstThe mail service that carries it, in the ordinary course of carrying it
The reply written backThe same mailboxThe sameThe same
One word saying the storage card was answeredThe browser on the reader's own machine, for this domain onlyUntil site data is clearedNobody. It never leaves the machine
Whatever is typed into the fare lookup, once it is submittedSent to the booking service that runs the lookupGoverned by that service, not by this oneThat service, under its own notice

If something is not in that table, this house does not have it.

Nothing measures a visit

No analytics of any kind runs on this site. No advertising script, no social button, no embedded video, no map, no comment system, and no typeface loaded from anybody else's machine. Both faces, every image, the stylesheet and the two scripts come from this domain.

There is consequently no record here of which pages were read, in what order, from where, or on what device. Not because it is withheld: it is never created.

Files have to be served by somebody, and whoever serves them keeps short operational records of the kind that make serving possible and stop abuse of it. Those records stay with them. They are never compiled into anything and sent here, never matched against a letter, and never consulted to work out that somebody has been before.

Never asked for at all

No card number, at any point, on any page. No date of birth, no government number, no medical detail, no employment detail. No street address, no building, no photograph of anybody's property. There is no account to open here, no password to set, and no list to be added to.

The fare lookup is the one thing that leaves

Submitting the form on the fare lookup page sends the booking service a single request holding the two places, the one or two dates, the class asked for and how many people are traveling.

That is the whole of what it can send, because that is the whole of what exists. No letter, no reading history and no reader identity are available to attach. Once the request has gone, the service's own rules govern what follows and Tallyhouse LLC stands outside it.

What a reader can ask for

Write to [email protected] and the following can be done, without a form and without proving anything beyond writing from the address in question:

  • A copy of any letter still held and of the reply to it
  • Deletion of a letter and its reply, done on receipt rather than after a review
  • Correction of anything in a letter that is wrong

Because nothing is profiled here and no decision is made about anybody automatically, there is no profile to object to and no automated decision to contest. That is a straightforward consequence of holding four fields and a word in a browser.

Children

This site is not directed at children, asks nothing of anybody's age, and holds nothing that would let it know. Nothing here is written for a child and nothing here is marketed to one.
